Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Quoc Dung chaired the international press conference about the 2020 ASEAN Chairmanship on November 18.

Speaking at the international press conference about the 2020 ASEAN Chairmanship Year in Hanoi on the morning of November 18, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Quoc Dung, Secretary General of the ASEAN 2020 National Committee, said the negotiations on the Regulations

“COC is currently the priority agenda of ASEAN and China.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung affirmed that as ASEAN Chairman in 2020, Vietnam will contribute to accelerating the COC negotiation process.

`Accelerating here means we can spend more time on negotiations as well as find appropriate ways to accelerate the negotiation process more effectively and achieve higher quality in 2020,` he said.

According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung, the Philippines is currently the country coordinating ASEAN – China relations and is also the country hosting the COC negotiations.

Answering a reporter’s question about Vietnam’s intention to raise the East Sea issue at the United Nations Security Council and ASEAN, when Vietnam simultaneously holds two positions in 2020 as a non-permanent member

Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung said that countries in and outside the region are currently interested in 5 issues in the East Sea issue, including: peace and stability;

`In the near future, any issue related to the above five contents will be reflected on the conference table, possibly in both ASEAN and the United Nations Security Council,` said Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung.
